SOUTHAMPTON legend Matthew Le Tissier believes Bale should stay at Saints.

Speaking in the Daily Mail, the Saints ‘icon’ spoke about Bale being better than Rooney and that if he wants an example about why he shouldn’t move he should look no further than Theo Walcott.

He said: ‘I have seen Gareth and spoken to people at the club and they are very excited about his talent. Manager George Burley has even said he can go on and become the best left-back in the world and why not?

‘If he stays, the club can build on that and add a few new players to bolster their push for a play-off place. Then he could well end up in the Premiership next season anyway.’

‘His free-kicks are top class and when he doesn’t score he is not far off at all. That is a great sign. I’d be pleased with some of them myself, Gareth is an amazing talent and, of course, bigger clubs are interested in him. But look at Theo Walcott.

‘He’s getting the odd run-out but he’s not playing week in, week out and at that age you need games to continue your learning curve.

‘Gareth is playing every week in a league were it is hard and he should continue to do so to add to his football education.’
