Lloyd James has been rewarded for his recent form with a call-up to the Welsh U21 side for their upcoming friendly fixture against Northern Ireland.
The 20-year-old makeshift defender has been in fine form recently, having set-up goals for Marek Saganowski against Norwich, and Andrew Surman against Sheffield United respectively.
It won’t be the first time that James has donned the Welsh shirt, having previously represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 level.
Should James make an appearance against Northern Ireland on Tuesday night, it would be his 10th cap at Under 21 level, a big achievement considering he has only broken into the Southampton first-team this season.
As the young Dragons failed to qualify for this summer’s UEFA European Under 21 Championship finals in Sweden, a win against Northern Ireland would be a welcome boost, especially with qualification for the 2011 tournament set to begin in March.
A solid performance from James on Tuesday would certainly go some way to making sure he is involved in future squads.
