Sky Sports have reported this afternoon, that as expected, newly promoted Premier League side Fulham have made a firm offer for Southampton fullback Matt Targett.
Having played 21 times for them in their Championship Play-Off promotion-winning campaign last season, and contributing one goal, Fulham have long been linked with the left-back and fans are somewhat torn on whether it should be a case of ‘deal or no deal’ from our perspective given his potential. The issue is game time to keep bringing the 22-year-old on in his development.
Southampton Fans Hoping Nothing Comes Of Fulham Speculation For Talented Young Defender
Sky state that we ‘have no interest in selling’ him as we continue to see him in our future plans. Whether that means under manager Mark Hughes in 2018/19 or further down the line and we’d accept another loan this year – well, that’s not confirmed.
Either way, the opening offer of a reported £10million has been instantly rebuffed.
Reaction on the social media side of the interweb is certainly mixed between Southampton and Fulham fans and the various slants this news is being given.
???? Fulham have reportedly bid £10m to acquire Matty Targett ????
Would love to see Matty back in a Southampton shirt again next season and feel the £10m is an undervaluation #Saintsfc #EPL pic.twitter.com/u0x0G5lYQL

Personally would snap their arm off for £10m, looks like Bertrand is staying and McQueen is an adequate back up imo

Matt Targett is Fulham’s priority at the moment signing wise. The young left back is all for a move to the Cottage, but the Saints are happy to negotiate in order to stretch the 22 year old’s price tag. Definitely looking likely though. #FULFORCE #FULHAM #SOUTHAMPTON #TARGETT
