Report: European club set £12.7m asking price for 26 y/o defender offered to Southampton

Bordeaux have set their price for 26-year-old fullback Youssouf Sabaly after offering the defender to Southampton and host of Premier League clubs.

Foot Mercato report via GFFN that the Ligue 1 side have slapped a €15m (£12.7m) price tag on the Senegalese fullback should a club come in with an offer for Sabaly during this transfer window, with Bordeaux offering the defender to the likes of the Saints, Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Fulham came close to signing Sabaly last year in the January transfer window, but the Cottagers missed out on a deal for the defender after failing to make contact with Bordeaux on deadline day despite everything being agreed as reported by Sky Sports News.

With Sabaly able to play as both a left and right-back as positional stats from Transfermarkt show, it is clear as to why Ralph Hasenhuttl might be interested in the Ligue 1 defender with the Southampton manager making it publicly clear that he wants to sign a fullback this month.

Is the defence the number one area Ralph must improve this window?

Yes, we leak in too many goals

No, things are starting to turn around for us

Hasenhuttl told Sky Sports News: “We are in the market and we are looking for, especially, full-backs because we know that we have not that many options at the moment. We have Ryan (Bertrand), not an alternative for him. And we also are missing young (Yann) Valery on the right side, we have not that many alternatives. This will be a position where we do something in the winter break.”

With Sabaly available on the cheap and already being offered to the Saints if the report is to be believed, Hasenhuttl could have the answer to his fullback woes with the Senegalese defender able to play in various positions that Hasenhuttl requires filling out in the Southampton squad.
