Report: Premier League side target £35m-rated Southampton star once compared to Sergio Busquets

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has found himself at the centre of late interest from Premier League side Everton, with Carlo Ancelotti reportedly interested in the Southampton captain.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports via The Daily Star that the Danish midfielder is a top target for the Toffees this month despite there being less than a week before the transfer window slams shut until July, with Southampton valuing Hojbjerg at £35m if Everton were to make a move for their star man.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Hojbjerg has been one of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s key players this season, with the former Bayern Munich man starting all but two Premier League games for the Saints this campaign as the 24-year-old midfield general has asserted himself as a good captain for the club since being awarded the armband at the start of the term.

Is this the most important transfer window in recent years?

Yes, we need fresh faces

No, we've experienced worse

Compared to Sergio Busquets in his early years as mentioned in an interview with The Mirror, the Saints will be eager to keep hold of Hojbjerg this month given his importance to the club and how much the midfielder has developed this season since taking the captaincy and having to play a pivotal role in digging the Saints out of the dumps following their woeful first half of the campaign.

Hojbjerg played the full 90 minutes against Leicester City in the infamous 9-0 defeat which was seen as the catalyst that changed Southampton’s season for the better, and given the Danish midfielder’s impact and influence on and off the pitch, it would seem highly unlikely the Saints will be willing to part with their 24-year-old captain even if an offer from Everton was to come in in the final few days of this transfer window.
