Mauricio Pochettino has come out and stated that if Saints are offered the chance of playing in Europe through the fair play system they will decline the offer.
Rumours had been rife that European Qualification could be attained after the only side above Saints in the Fair Play table who hadn’t already secured a place in Europe next year, Liverpool had also stated they would decline to qualify for Europe in this way.
Talking in his pre-match press conference Mauricio said that after discussion with chairman Nicola Cortese the offer if it came would be declined.
For one, I am pleased as it means we will be able to concentrate, without distraction, on keeping our improving league form going.
The second season for promoted clubs is known to be as difficult if not more so than the first. The other clubs will know more about us and will be better prepared.
