There are times we remember with fondness and memories that are less welcome. Southampton gaining a late late victory over West Bromwich Albion is one to savour, and keep in the memory bank.

When you have seen the birth of your third child and then played in your first International and scored not much can improve your spirits.

Playing for Southampton yesterday, Rickie Lambert found the way to make it even better. With time running out he smashed a superbly taken penalty into the corner of the net of the post.

The kick had to be extremely well taken as well because the goalkeeper guessed the correct way and diving to his right so nearly got to the ball.

Talking to Saints Player after the game Rickie said, “I tried to just whack it into that corner and thankfully, it`s gone right into the corner because I think he`s got fingertips to it as well.

“I knew I`d caught it sweet because it would have been a hell of a save, if he`d saved it.”

Even more pleasing for all concerned was the fact that Saints had four players that have come through the Saints Academy graduates taking to the field.

Calum Chambers making a composed debut at right back for the club was a plus with performance meaning we now have cover at the back for times like now with Nathaniel Clyne still out after collecting a knock.

Great times lay ahead with even more youngsters looking as though they may also progress into the first team in the near future.
