Saints Under 21’s suffered a home defeat on Friday which hopefully will not be the norm this season.

A bumper crowd turned up to support Saints’ Development Squad as they played host to their Chelsea counterparts, but Saints fans ultimately left St Mary’s disappointed.

Omar Rowe set Saints off by scoring on 15 minutes but Chelsea scored two quick goals and led 2-1 at half time. The second half began with Saints again starting well and Rowe had a shot hit a post before the Blues netted on 68 minutes to tie up the game.

A goal 2 minutes from the end made the result appear worse than the performance but there was no denying the fact that Saints young team was well and truly out muscled and beaten by a bigger stronger outfit.

Good points were the displays of Omar Rowe and to an extent Jake Sinclair. Matt Targett returned and did ok but generally we were not at our best.

The next game will be away to Reading where we hope the team can resume normal business.
