Saints bid to sign Hearts defender Andy Webster was dealt a blow when his agent revealed that the player was talking to different clubs from around Europe.

The player’s agent Charlie Duddy told the Scots paper the Daily Record:-

‘I’m in the process of looking at flights and planning exactly how we’ll arrange our club visits.’

Saints manager George Burley still remains keen to sign the player with whom he worked at old club Hearts but is now set to face stiff competition from some top clubs including PSV Eindhoven and Marseille.

The new board, who recently took over from Rupert Lowe, remain optimistic that Saints will be able to strengthen the squad and then push for promotion.

Chief Executive Jim Hone told www.saintsfc.co.uk:-

‘Obviously we want to give George Burley every chance of building a squad to take us up.’

Saints fans will be happy that the new regime seems intent on focusing upon the footballing side of the club.
