Saints made futher strides in the transfer market today, signing left back O’Halloran on loan from Aston Villa.

The young Irishman has joined to gain first team experience, he has recently signed a new contract with the Midlands club, keeping him at Villa Park until 2009.

He has represented The Republic of Ireland at: U15, U16, U17 and at U21 level, he is only 20 but has represented the senior team, playing in friendlies against Ecuador and Bolivia.

Burley told the official site: ‘He is here for an initial month and we will see how it goes and take if from there.’

He is yet to play in the premiership for Villa, but did have a loan spell at Wycombe and played left-back in the 1-1 with Chelsea, when former saint Wayne Bridge scored for Chelsea.

He goes into the squad that travel to Plymouth on Saturday.
