The performance was likened to a non vintage drink. We were not playing in the champagne style of recent home games. In fact at at times the O’s seemed more bubbly than the Saints.

Alan Pardew told Saints Player, ‘It was a tough game. I saw Orient on Saturday and they had a really tough day at the office. Nothing went right for them and they looked like they lacked confidence. Then of course they had a managerial change. They have come here under no pressure and given it a go.’

‘To be fair they gave it a real good go for Kevinand he did a good job setting them up. We didn’t start well. We ended up a goal behind which we can’t keep doing, but the reaction was to just dig in really. There was no fluid football from us today.’

He continued, ‘There were a couple of nice moments, but we had to just grind out this result out. Which we did and I will give the players the credit for doing that.

‘There isn’t going to be champagne every week. It’s not even going to be Asti Spumante, sometimes it is pale ale, and that was pale ale we saw today.’

Alan Pardew continued by saying that he thought one or two were off the pace. Morgan was coming back from injury and looked off the pace. Lee had a quiet game as did Rickie. Why is not always obvious and of course Radhi was injured.

He was delighted by Lallana. Overall he said that Adam played well and his goals were magnificent. The first Alan thought was a sublime piece of skill. The second a brilliant piece of execution.

To finish Alan Pardew did say that he was content overall. We have a lot of quality in the squad and he thought that it was the quality of two of the team that shone through today.
