Southampton boss Alan Pardew aims to bolster his defence with the signing of Radhi Jaidi.

With just four days until Saints’ League One opener with Millwall, Pardew feels that his defense needs an experienced man to command at the back.

Jaidi, 33, certainly fits the bill having spent many years in the Premiership with Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City.

The centre back was released by Birmingham after their promotion to the Premiership, and having completed his medical with Southampton yesterday, Jaidi could be Pardew’s second signing after Dan Harding.

  • We definitely need a commanding centre back, someone who can work with the younger players like Oli Lancashire. I’d like to see Jaidi at Saints, and thought he was solid for Birmingham last season.

  • Fingers crossed. This would be a great signing for Saints. Another CB, two midfielders, a right winger and another striker now!

  • Yep, that would be pretty good if we could get all of those positions sorted out! Can’t wait for the season to start now, bring on Millwall!!!!!

  • Hopefully we can sign Jaidi today, and along with the signing of Murty, today would have been a good day. Bring on the Lions!!!!!

  • Looks like we won’t be signing him! Such a shame, we could have done with his services. Looks like Oli Lancashire needs to perform this season!
