Danny Ings has been in scintillating form for the Saints this season.

His form has proved what a great signing he has been for Liverpool, despite all of the players that the club have given to them over the years.

Before the campaign was temporarily halted, the Englishman had scored 15 goals from 23 starts and six appearances from the bench and found the net last during our 2-1 defeat to Burnley back in February.

After struggling to break into the side ahead of Liverpool’s front three and suffering two serious knee injuries, Ings has managed to turn his career around after making the move to St Mary’s in 2018 on loan, only to make the move permanent a year later for £20m.

Yes, this did seem like a lot of money for the club to pay at the time for such a player, but it turned out it was money well spent.

Has Ings been Southampton's best player this season?

Yes, no question about it

No, others have been more important

In total, he now has 26 goals from 58 appearances in the famous red and white shirt and looks to have a bright future on the South Coast.

Not only is his form beneficial to himself, but also the club. With a player armed with such a potent attacking prowess, Ings can help the Saints move into the top 10 of the Premier League table.

Southampton are currently 14th in the standings and are only five points behind Burnley who are in 10th place. With four out of the nine games left against teams around them, this is the time for Ings to shine once more.

From the game that he’s featured in, Ings has averaged 2.3 shots per game and is out in his own league in terms of goalscoring for the Saints, with James Ward-Prowse the player closest to him with four goals, as per Whoscored.

It is not a case of giving the ball to Ings and he will score. But having him in the side will give Southampton a glorious chance of breaking into the top 10.
