It was a relatively quiet day today for Southampton with no Premier League fixtures owing to the fourth round of the FA Cup taking precedence in the calendar, but there was one piece of noteworthy news – Cedric Soares completed his loan move out to Italian side Inter Milan.

On Saturday evening the club confirmed that the deal had gone through and he heads to the San Siro in many ways, looking to get himself back to his best after a poor couple of years at St Mary’s Stadium. It’s not all the 27-year-old Portuguese’s fault as he’s not the only player to have suffered given our struggles overall, but the European Championship winner probably does need a fresh start.

The deal is a loan for the remainder of the campaign with a view to a permanent move next summer and reports from the likes of Sky Sports are suggesting we will make a nice profit on the fullback, as the expected fee is said to be worth around the £10million mark for the club.

Sky break it down as £500,000 for the loan, with the option being £9.5million.

In many ways, we probably should be receiving more from him, but with manager Ralph Hasenhuttl preferring Yann Valery, I guess the fee is a compromise to ensure a deal goes through.
