Paul has played over 500 games in his professional career to date and has served Southampton well since leaving Plymouth.

His best position for Southampton was as the defensive midfielder patrolling the area in front of the back four.

In the last year or so I think he has been used predominantly to shore things up as the game ran down while we tried to hold on to a slender lead.

The limited by injury this season he has always been a player that gave his all. Some of us may think that that wasn’t enough but he is a genuine player who does his best.

I wish him well with his loan spell and am left wondering whether we have now seen the end of him as a Saints player.

If this is the case then I wish him well with his new venture.

  • Never rated him as a player but he always seemed to be picked as a defensive player for our midfield though latterly only as a sub.

  • Just in time for him to play the Millers on Saturday! I bet he’s not slow and ponderable then!
