He appeared to be fully in control of his faculties and played against powerful Premiership frontman in former Saint Kevin Davies.

Aaron received a lot of praise for the way he handled the match against Davies for the commanding way in which he handled the experience.

At half-time the Bolton frontline had the added strength of Elmander arriving and even then Aaron coped admirably.

In his own words as spoke to Saints Player, ‘Big (Kevin) Davies is very strong and Elmander when he came on, they both have huge physical prescence which I just had to carry on playing against.’

And play against he did as he and Jose Fonte played the game doing the simple things at the back to allow the team’s game plan to come together.

He said how he and Jose kept talking together throughout the game as they played solidly at the back.

Alan Pardew has even hinted that the youngster had done enough to stay involved for the coming league matches.

I find the rise of both Aaron and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain very heartening. If both make the grade and there is every likelihood that they will it will be a big boost to our squad’s age average.
