Saints Kenyan midfield signing Victor Wanyama has spoken about his joy at achieving a life-long dream. He said it was an ‘awesome feeling’ to help his new club to victory on the opening day of the new Premier League season.

Victor may not have been on the score sheet but he was mightily impressive especially in the first half of the match against West Bromwich Albion.

Speaking after the game to Super Sport he admitted to having nerves before the start. I have a distinct feeling more will be nervous of tangling with him.

‘As a player my dream has always been to play in England and just before the game as usual you get the nervous moments but once the game was on it was time to do what I know best and that was giving the best for my team Southampton,’

He continued, ‘I know it’s a work in progress and I will continue working hard in both the training sessions and match days but all in all I thank God for making it happen for me as the win in the first game of the league and my debut was an awesome feeling.’

I have a hunch that our Victor will very quickly become one of our favourite sons at St Mary’s.
