Southampton have today confirmed the expected move of midfielder Victor Wanyama to Tottenham Hotspur.

With him wanting out for the last few transfer windows and Southampton digging their heels in, it’s very much a case of finally bringing the curtain down on his time with us as he completes a move to work with Mauricio Pochettino once more for a reported £11 or £13million.

The fee is undisclosed.

Having arrived from Celtic back in the summer of 2013 – and his arrival didn’t actually go smoothly with financial issues as reported at the time – Wanyama went on to make 97 appearances for the club, scoring four times – and helping us to three top eight finishes as we continued our own improvement as a club.

Potentially he leaves having gained more red cards than goals – but I can’t be bothered to check.

The club wish him well for the future, and Wanyama has had kind words for the club and fans in his first interviews since the switch.
