Manager Mauricio Pochettino has said he felt Southampton were far superior in the game against Stoke this weekend, so he was disappointed not to add another win to our collection so far this season.

The game certainly had its talking points didn’t it, Asmir Begovic’s goal was almost guaranteed to take the headlines wasn’t it, but Saints battled back credibly for a point and could well have added more goals despite the windy conditions on the day.

Speaking to saintsfc following the game, the gaffer admitted he had mixed emotions at full time because he was pleased with how we responded to the early goal, and he was pleased to see us continue our unbeaten run to eight matches now, but he couldn’t help feeling disappointed at dropping two points.

‘I think overall, we were superior to Stoke. We showed a lot of character and resilience today, and I am bit frustrated that we didn’t actually win the game. It was very tough, but we showed that the team can play in our own style.’

The manager also took time out in his after match interview to address Begovic’s bizarre goal and he insisted that Artur Boruc could leave Britannia with his head held high.

‘The weather conditions were strange. There was a lot of wind and a lot of gusts that continually changed direction that made things very difficult. I think the way we responded to such an unlucky incident shows that the team is mature and shows how they have developed,.’

Adding that on that issue he was very happy indeed, because losing the goal that early into the game and in that manner could have shocked many a team, but we brushed it off instantly, didn’t panic, and continued to play the right way to get back on level terms.

I doubt very much that we’ll see another goal like that for a long time, and there’s no reason at all for anyone to imply that Boruc was at fault. Sometimes goals like that do just happen and you have to laugh it off.
