Yoshida Eyeing Leicester Revenge

Japanese international centre-half Maya Yoshida has promised that Southampton will be out for revenge this Thursday evening when we face Leicester City in the Premier League.

Southampton continue to sit in 18th place in the top flight table and we are now five points from safety having only picked up one point from our last five matches. We are also on a run of four straight losses including the incredibly disappointing late capitulation to Chelsea in our last game.

With matches quickly running out in the season but Chelsea at least holding some tangible positives from our showing, all hope of survival isn’t yet lost. However, we need to put in repeat performances and a far stronger defensive showing in the games that remain.

Speaking to saintsfc as he met with the media this week, Yoshida was remaining positive and he knew that Southampton could use revenge as a good motivator given the heavy defeat we suffered in the game earlier in the season.

Hosting them at St Mary’s Stadium, Leicester took a 4-1 victory last December but they have lost their last two games and are without a win in four on home soil.

“It was a really disappointing game. But this is a big chance for revenge against a big opponent. They have many good players on the attacking side. It’s really difficult to play one v one against Vardy or Mahrez, so we need to be a good, organised unit to not concede a goal. We have a chance to score, I believe, because they’ve conceded in a couple of games recently.”

With Charlie Austin back in the mix to help with our ongoing goalscoring issues, hopefully, that will play in our favour as well.

Fans remain nervous though.
