Defender Pens Two Year Southampton Extension In Recognition Of His Ongoing Development

|

Young Southampton defender Christoph Klarer has this week penned a new two year extension at St Mary’s Stadium in recognition of his ongoing development in our youth levels.

With a clear turn back towards youth since the arrival of Austrian manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, the 18-year-old youth international has become a regular member of Radhi Jaidi’s Under 23 squad following his arrival in 2016 from SK Rapid Wien and last season he was our Under 18 skipper such is his maturity and promise.

With Hasenhuttl clearly keeping a much closer eye on our underage setup since he arrived at Staplewood, Klarer admits it’s been a massive boost for all at that level as they know that if they catch his eye, he will likely give them a senior shot.

Speaking to saintsfc after signing his extension, he explained.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here and just want to keep the hard work going and improve every day. It’s all been worth it. The lads are great friends of mine now, and I feel settled here. I’m only looking forward. I hope to finish the season strongly and make something happen. Obviously I want to have a chance in the first-team when my time comes. The dream is to make my debut for this club and there’s always a chance if you’re playing well. Staff, coaches, analysts; everyone has helped me along the way. I’m thankful for everything they’ve done for me really.”

Again, he simply becomes another name that it might be worthwhile remembering for next season and the future years ahead.
