“Didn’t Really Play Football” – Hasenhuttl Content With A Difficult Point

|

The midweek Premier League fixture calendar had Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium as hosts to Crystal Palace earlier tonight.

After our back to back defeats, Southampton drew a line with a draw and then got back to winning ways with two victories on the spin in recent times, and we go into the game with 15th place potentially up for grabs.

Form is with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, as Palace are on a run of back to back defeats themselves but this was set to be a tough encounter.

It proved to be with the visitors taking the lead just ahead of the halftime break, but James Ward-Prowse did restore parity in the 77th minute. Despite Palace going down to ten men in the 87th minute, a draw at 1-1 was probably a fair result in many ways given the balance of chances in the game, although we did have more of the ball.

The unbeaten run continues though and that isn’t such a bad thing.

Speaking to the BBC following the 90 minutes, our Austrian gaffer said of the game.

“I think it was a very, very important point against a very good team. We knew it would be difficult today. They gave us less chances to win the ball early. It was always long balls and they didn’t really play football. I think with their counterattacking qualities it was difficult, because we have to build up the game with patience.”
