With Monday’s news of the departure of manager Mark Hughes and his backroom staff from Southampton, former RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has quickly become a media favourite to become his replacement.

Given the decision to sack Hughes after the Manchester United draw on Saturday, it does feel like our Board have somebody lined up already and possibly almost in place to take a watching brief as we face Tottenham Hotspur in midweek, and we’ll have to see if 51-year-old Hasenhuttl is that man or not.

He’s been out of work since leaving Leipzig back in May as he couldn’t agree a new contract with them, but his two-year stay with them returned a 2nd and 6th place finish in the Bundesliga.

I know nothing of the bloke other than what we can all read online but at least he seems to have some pedigree from his time in Germany and ‘Announce Hasenhuttl’ has started to infect every social media post from the club, so clearly he has his backers in the fanbase.

We’ll have to wait and see.
