With ongoing scoring issues at Southampton as well as problems with a leaky defence under manager Mark Hughes as ably epitomised by a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea last weekend – although arguably that match was a test of its own.
One Southampton man did have a good weekend out for his loan club and that was Sofiane Boufal who came off the bench for Celta Viga to score their consolation strike in a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla.
As the goal became circulated widely on social media, some Southampton fans were quick to call for his return, although in fairness were also still wary of his previous behaviour with us that ultimately led to his falling out with Hughes.
Never doubted his skill as a footballer, but his mentality let him down.

I think we all do Joseph @SaintsTayo Could be amazing player, i'll never forget the goal he scored against W.Brom, dribbling the length of the pitch, and making their two defenders collide with each other in panic !

Tough one. He’s clearly got behavioural issues but his talent is undeniable. If he sorts out his attitude whilst out on loan I’d be more than happy to see him come back

I think he knows he’s good which is why he acts the way he does when left on the bench. But doesn’t realise it’s that exact attitude which is keeping him there. Needs to grow up a bit & he’ll be next level. Haven’t seen enough of Moi & Armstrong yet to judge. Early days though ????????

It’s a great goal in fairness and we did see similar when he found the back of the net against West Bromwich Albion in 2017/18 but as the above comments ably imply, it has never been his potential talent that was open for debate – it was his application.
