This weekend, Manchester United will be coming to St. Mary’s, and the Saints are in a good run of form as they prepare to welcome the top six club. Ralph Hasenhuttl has it all to do in what promises to be an interesting clash, but Nathan Redmond’s injury could prove costly.

The winger-cum-forward started against Fulham in the Carabao Cup second round as the traveling Premier League side overcame their Championship hosts 1-0 to make it into the third round of the Carabao Cup.

So far this season, Redmond has played every single minute of Premier League action for the Saints and has bagged once in his 270 minutes of action in the league. Last night he then assisted the only goal of the game at Craven Cottage to continue his bright start to the 2019/20 season.

Whilst Southampton have found a touch of form, winning their last two games, Manchester United are in very different form, losing to Crystal Palace and drawing to Wolves in their previous two games, but they’ll still be tough to beat for Southampton, especially without Redmond.

The 25-year-old attacker started against Fulham alongside Sofiane Boufal and Michael Obafemi, and with Boufal and Redmond capable of providing width, having one of them missing as they welcome Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to the South coast is far from ideal and could seriously limit their chances.

In the past, Redmond has never scored or assisted a goal against Man United and has only been on the winning side against the Red Devils once, but as United look weak and the Saints are in form, it seems a better time than ever for the 25-year-old to make his mark against the Old Trafford side.
