Report: £35m-rated Southampton star linked to PL club that failed to sign out-of-favour teammate

Leicester City are reportedly interested in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg just hours after the Foxes had a £25m bid rejected for teammate and fellow Dane Jannik Vestergaard.

Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet report via Sport Witness that Brendan Rodgers’ side are very keen on bringing the Southampton captain to the King Power Stadium, with the report stating that the Leicester manager would ‘very much’ like to bring the 24-year-old midfielder to the Foxes.

Hojbjerg has surprisingly found himself at the centre of interest from several Premier League clubs this January, with Everton and Tottenham being reported as sides keen on the Danish international, with The Daily Star reporting that Southampton value their Danish midfielder at £35m.

Will Southampton have a busy Deadline Day?

Whilst it is highly unlikely that Ralph Hasenhuttl will allow his club captain to leave for a Premier League side, it isn’t the first time the Austrian manager has been met with interest from Leicester for one of his players, with Vestergaard emerging as a defensive target for the King Power side.

However, as reported by The Mirror via HITC, Southampton rejected a £25m bid for the towering Danish defender despite Vestergaard hardly featuring for Southampton since their infamous 9-0 defeat to Leicester back in October as stats from Transfermarkt show, with the 27-year-old centre-back playing just three Premier League games since the loss.

With time running out for Southampton to find a replacement for Hojbjerg and the Saints likely to want more than £35m for their club captain with it being Deadline Day, it is highly unlikely that a deal to take the Dane to Leicester will happen today, especially with the Foxes seemingly keen on signing a centre-back with hours of the window left to conduct business.
