It wouldn’t be a summer transfer window if Liverpool weren’t linked with a raid on Southampton for at least one player after dealings between the clubs in the last few years, so I guess goalkeeper Alex McCarthy being linked on the rumour mill with a potential Anfield switch shouldn’t come as a surprise.
With the 29-year-old goalkeeper taking his chance to impress as Fraser Forster’s confidence fell into the basement, McCarthy has found himself second choice following the arrival of manager Ralph Hasenhuttl who has so far preferred Angus Gunn as his choice between the sticks.
Over the weekend, the Mirror’s transfer ticker tentatively suggested that with the assumption that Simon Mignolet will be moving on this summer, Jurgen Klopp is considering McCarthy as backup to Alisson.
They claim that Klopp had some interest in him last summer, but I don’t remember that myself although I could’ve forgotten.
The report has little substance to it and not even a suggestion of a price, but that doesn’t usually stop the red tops.
