A Premier League move could be in the offering for the Lorient winger Yoane Wissa, with Southampton interested in his services, according to reports in France.

We have a habit of capturing unrecognised young talent from Europe over the years. Recent examples include Sadio Mane and Dusan Tadic, who have since moved on from St Mary’s.

Had anybody heard of those two players before they arrived on the South Coast? A new name could be about to join those if the deal goes through.

According to the German publication Express, Watford, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham are queuing up along with the Saints to bring the 23-year-old to England.

Would you bring Yoane Wissa to Southampton?

Typically a left-sided midfielder, Wissa had been in prolific form this season having scored 16 goals in 30 games for Les Merlus, taking his overall total for the club to 26 from 85 appearances and 44 goals from 147 outings for five different clubs in his career. At the age of 23, that is an impressive return.

Of course, this was before the respective Ligue 1 & 2 campaigns were abruptly brought to a close, which leaves clubs to make their enquiries about the Frenchman to Lorient.

Wissa is contracted at Lorient until 2022 and Southampton could be going back to their roots by signing young prospects from across Europe, and could indeed fit the bill.

We should have the advantage in this, especially over the competition from the Championship. Depending on how this season’s relegation battle ends up this season, which Watford could go down, the obvious choice would be to come to St Mary’s.
