Report: Southampton loanee who ‘had a very hard 18 months’ rules out comeback in January window

Fraser Forster has denied that he will be returning to Southampton in the January transfer window.

Speaking to The Daily Record, the 31-year-old shot-stopper admitted that there was no option to return to the Saints in the winter but insisted that he is happy to remain in Celtic for the remainder of the season where Forster has reclaimed his number one spot for the Scottish giants.

The Southampton keeper has been crucial for the Hoops this season as Rangers mount their fiercest charge yet for Scottish Premiership, with the league table showing that only goal difference separates Steven Gerrard’s side with Celtic in the standings.

Does Forster have a future at Southampton?

No

Forster said about the possibility of returning to the Premier League in January: “I don’t think there’s a recall (option), so I think I’m here for the season from my side of things. I’m happy here and glad to be back here playing. I just want to do as well as I can so I think I’ll be here for the season.”

The England international added with: “I wanted to be back here and I wanted to be playing. I had a very hard 18 months before going back up where I wasn’t playing for Southampton when I’d so used to playing.”

With the Saints conceding the most goals out of any side in the Premier League this season and Angus Gunn coming under fire from the likes of Ralph Hasenhuttl as reported by The Southern Daily Echo, Southampton could have seemingly done with Forster back at St. Mary’s.

Southampton’s leaky defence and questionable choices between the sticks could doom the Saints to a bottom three place in the league table, and it is likely that Forster returning could have been a readymade solution for Hasenhuttl’s problems in goal.
