Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand is attracting interest from Leicester City, according to the Daily Mail.

The 30-year-old’s contract has just one year left on it and his future is uncertain at St Mary’s, which is bringing the attention of other clubs around them.

The Foxes are looking to replace Ben Chilwell, who is likely to join Chelsea in the summer for an estimated £50m.

Bertrand is one of the Saints’ most important assets and reports suggested from The Telegraph that he could be in line for a new deal, along with the Spanish midfielder Oriel Romeu.

Since his permanent £10m move to the South Coast in 2005, the former England international has gone on to score eight goals and provide 19 assists in 198 appearances for the club. A loyal servant to the Saints’ cause, as per TransferMarkt.

With this in mind, Bertrand is now the club’s only left-back at Ralph Hasenhuttl’s disposal at this time, with Jake Vokins making his baby steps into the first-team.

With the temporary suspension of the Premier League and the season about to get underway, this may have scuppered any plans that the club had in the summer transfer window to bring in players that they would have liked.

As a result, Southampton are better off keeping hold of Bertrand, who is now one of the senior players in the dressing room.
