Saints Fold Against Dale

Southampton came unstuck again as Rochdale defended stoutly and scored two good breakaway goals. We had plenty of opportunities but just could not put the ball where it mattered. Puncheon missed the target from 3 yards and Jo Mills from not much further late in the game. Chris O’Grady scored the first right on the stroke of half-time after a half dominated by Saints and the second half was as we had feared. More pressure with very little flair and no cutting edge. It came as no surprise when Dale broke away to score the second with Gary Jones foring home from 25 yards. Saints huffed and puffed but just could not break down the Dale defence.

Rickie Lambert looks a shadow of th player we had last season and without him and Adam Lallana we appear to be very toothless.

This game brought back memories of our youth experiment when under Lowe and is not at all palatable fare. If I was to say what I really feel I would be banned but let me say that this just is not good enough. The whole atmosphere stinks of fear and concern and I am not happy with what appears to be happening at our club.

Manager Rating
This is the lowest I have ever given for a manager because Wilkins does not look or act like someone with a clue as to his next move. (2)

Opponent Rating
Had by far the cest of this game and his team fought for him and thoroughly deserved their reward. (7)
