“I prefer not to think about it now” – Saints striker throws his future into serious doubt

|

Southampton striker Guido Carrillo has cast a shadow of doubt over his future at St Mary’s during a recent interview.

The Saints forward made the move to the South Coast for a club-record £19.2m from the Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in 2018. It’s safe to say that things haven’t gone as well as he would have hoped for.

Having only managed to accumulate just two assists from a total of 10 appearances, he has been touted as one of our worst signings in the club’s long history.

As a result of this, he has spent the last two campaigns on loan in Spain and with the La Liga outfit Leganes, in an attempt to salvage the damage to his career caused at Southampton.

Speaking to Somos Lega, Carrillo admitted that he does not want to think about the future at this time as he focuses on the rest of the campaign in La Liga when it recommences.

Is Carrillo Southampton's worst ever signing?

Yes

Yes

No

“I still have a year left in England, but I prefer not to think about it now”, said Carrillo.

“We have a very important objective which is to save Leganés. And we are all focused on that.

“It’s the only thing that matters to me right now.”

Leganes have previously made it clear that they would like to stick with Carrillo long term and were keen on securing a permanent deal for him, but were unable to agree financial terms with the Saints and therefore spent another year on loan in Spain.

I’m sure all of us will agree that if Carrillo left, it would be the best move for all parties involved. He has been nothing short of a disaster and needs to be moved on as quickly as possible.
