Rumours linking Southampton midfielder Steven Davis with a move back to Scotland and former club Rangers aren’t new at all, and the most recent development was that we’d be willing to let him leave on a free to help a deal through as long as the Glasgow side could strike a suitable contract agreement with him.

That was originally just well-educated speculation in recognition of his years with us, but manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has now effectively confirmed it when speaking about the player to Sky Sports yesterday.

Their report stated that both sides are in regular contact about the deal and Hasenhuttl stated that the club would be looking to help the 34-year-old take the ‘next step’ in his career and we looked for a ‘win, win solution’ in his search for far greater game time.

“The fact is he has a half-year contract here until the summer so what we want to give him is the chance to make the next step, if it is a possibility we will help him to do so. He has done a lot for this club so hopefully we can find a win-win solution for both sides.”

After six and a half years at St Mary’s Stadium where nobody could doubt his effort, it’s a fantastic standpoint from the club in my humble and they get a lot of credit for that.
