With transfer speculation kicking up a notch over the weekend Southampton fans were simply awaiting official confirmation of Matt Targett’s departure and Che Adams’ arrival and earlier today we got it – along with a third announcement about the permanent capture of Danny Ings.

23-year-old Academy graduate Targett makes the switch to Aston Villa for a believed £14million up front fee, but in a deal worth £17million overall to the club.

With 63 appearances to his name as he brings the curtain down on 15 years at the club, some fans will still question whether he should’ve been ours for the future but given the deal has effectively paid for the arrival of Adams given his reported £15million switch from Birmingham, in fairness you can’t argue at that business as there are a few years left in Ryan Bertrand yet.

The unexpected announcement today was confirmation of Danny Ings’ permanent switch from Liverpool following his loan spell last year. With so much focus over the weekend on Adams and Targett I’d completely forgotten about the obligation to buy him which naturally concluded itself as we turned into the new month.

A busy day for the Hasenhuttl Express – where will it go next?
