It was being claimed in some quarters of the press on Friday that Southampton had beaten off competition from Liverpool and Manchester United for highly-rated Birmingham City youngster Romello Mitchell.
The Times’ Paul Joyce took to social media to state.
Southampton set to sign Birmingham City 16-year-old Romello Mitchell for £300,000. Deal could reach £1m.

Premier League clubs have apparently been tracking the youngster since last summer given how he’s progressed, and in the season of 2018/19 he’s seriously impressed for Birmingham’s Under 18 side from everything I’m reading.
Given the success over the years of our Academy, if he turned down firm interest from those in red, it also shows he’s got his head screwed on nicely, and an upfront compensation fee of £300,000, potentially rising to £1million is a strong indication of the potential we obviously feel the lad has got in the game.
Local outlet the Birmingham Mail seem to have the scoop here, and confirm that he’s been on trial with us in recent weeks as we took a closer look at him, and obviously we liked what we saw.
Maybe worth remember the name for in a few season’s time.
