Southampton’s hopes of avoiding relegation in the Premier League campaign of 2018/19 received a significant boost on Saturday afternoon as we took all three points from Tottenham Hotspur.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino’s side utterly dominated the first 45 minutes, there’s no point in denying it, we were shambolically poor and how we went into the break only 1-0 down is beyond me. Second half was a different story though and it doesn’t matter if you put it down to our improvement or their taking the foot off the gas – both are probably true. All that matters is that Yan Valery found himself on the scoresheet again to draw us level, and James Ward-Prowse hit another fabulous set piece to give us the lead and we held on for the win.

Statistics website Whoscored acknowledged our improvements and made Jan Bednarek our Man of the Match given his individual efforts.

Completing the top five best performers on the day for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl were JWP (7.55), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (7.16), Nathan Redmond (7.12) and Jannik Vestergaard (7.10).

Stuart Armstrong’s appearance as a substitute also saw him receive a seven-plus score from the game.
