Having lost the last match, Southampton were looking to get back on track when we welcomed high flying Wolverhampton Wanderers to St Mary’s Stadium for Saturday’s Premier League clash.

With the form of Nuno Espirito Santo’s boys, it was going to be tough but we know our own quality when it clicks, and it certainly did at the weekend.

A brace from Nathan Redmond and another goal from Shane Long tied all three points up and statistics website Whoscored could only have one Man of the Match after that showing, and the star man award went to brace scorer Redmond with a score of 8.92.

Completing the top five on the day were Jannik Vestergaard (7.57), Danny Ings (7.49), Jan Bednarek (7.44) and Ryan Bertrand (7.35).

Maya Yoshida also received a seven-plus score for his efforts on the day and the gap to the relegation zone grows by three points with only one spot left to be decided.

40 points remains the aim, but short of a complete disaster we should now be able to look more to next season and pushing back up the league instead of scraping around at the bottom.
