Every club will always have a captain that they will respect no matter what, and for Southampton fans in the modern era, that man is Steven Davis.

The Northen Ireland international spent seven seasons at the club in the Premier League, making well over 200 appearances for the Saints as numbers from Transfermarkt show and scoring 14 goals, and Southampton marked his time on the south coast with his strike against Crystal Palace in 2017.

Many Southampton fans were happy to see their former captain deserve the recognition he deserves, and some took to social media to praise Davis for his time at the club.

Here is what some Saints fans had to say on Twitter…

Davis returned to former club Rangers this January on loan, with the move becoming a permanent one on the summer window as reported by BBC Sport.

  • Without doubt one of the best value for money player signed during my 55 years of watching Saints, an absolute bargain along with Ricky Lambert and Chris Nichol. All bargain basement captures who wore the shirt with pride and excelled for Saints. We miss him for sure.
