Hypothetical questions in football are always entertaining for supporters, and one on social media has caught the attention of Southampton fans.
Pub dreamland chat. Would you rather England win World Cup or Saints win European Cup? It’s close but Saints edge it for me. More games in different countries across a whole season as oppose to a mental month. I’m interested what others think, both would be awesome #SaintsFC

Twitter user Milton Road Saint posed the question to Saints supporters as to what would they prefer to see out of England winning the World Cup or Southampton winning a European cup, with the south coast side never claiming silverware on a continental level.
Can Southampton start to dream of a European finish?
Yes, we can do it again
No, our luck will run out
Although seeing the Three Lions lift their first World Cup since 1966 would be a national achievement, a few Southampton fans on social media were more keen on the Saints winning a European cup rather than England crowning themselves as the best national team on the planet.
Here is what some Saints supporters had to say on Twitter about Southampton winning a European cup over England winning the World Cup…
I’d Saints winning the League Cup over England any day of the week! Club first. Always

England football games bore me!

Club over country every day

I’d take Saints winning the League Cup. Am happy for England to do well, but nowhere near as bothered and was over the Croatia defeat after ten mins or so (though weirdly, still not over 1990 pens defeat).

It’s always been club over county for me but even more so after several Saints players have been snubbed by England over the years and players I don’t like get picked and Saints are more important. That’s it really.

With the Saints just three points off a Europa League spot in the Premier League table, there is some hope that Southampton could do the impossible this season and qualify for Europe next season.
