Southampton manager George Burley stirred his current side past his old one to claim the three points.

A first minute goal from on loan Polish striker Marek Saganowski was enough to claim the victory and push Saints back into the play-off places.

Welsh full back Gareth Bale whipped in a free-kick from the right flank and Saganowski’s header beat Ipswich Town goalkeeper Price.

Kenwyne Jones should have killed off the game on the hour mark but his shot struck the post. But in the end the one goal was enough.
