It was a new-look attacking front two for Southampton on Boxing Day against Chelsea, with Che Adams making his first start for the club since September, and the former Birmingham City star made the most of his chance.
Che Adams worked his socks off today. Want him to do well But seeing lots of fans saying how great he was. Please show me 5 clips of him holding the ball up.Touch was poor and kept giving it away.Didn’t look prem quality. And most fans around me were saying same thing. #saintsfc

The 23-year-old striker was impressive against the Blues, doing well in the build-up to Michael Obafemi’s opening goal and overall impressing against a Chelsea side who last week got the better of Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.
Will Adams score a goal this season?
Yes, he just needs a confidence boost
No, he has not proven himself
The 2-0 win was a massive moment in Southampton’s season, and for Adams, it was exactly the performance he needed to win back the trust of Ralph Hasenhuttl, and on social media, Saints supporters were full of praise for the young striker in his comeback appearance for the south coast side.
Here’s what Southampton fans had to say on Twitter about Adams’ performance against the Blues…
No confidence coming into this game coming up against 3 centre backs ALL of which are ridiculously strong and tall and he held his own completely – open up your mind a bit, stop being negative it was a top performance

He was one of our best players I don’t get what people are on about

As the game went on, his overall game and contribution improved as his confidence started to grow. He desperately needs a goal but I thought he played okay, not great but certainly showed enough to suggest theres a player in there with enough ability to be good for us.

Although the striker impressed, Adams is still yet to find the back of the net in a professional game for Southampton as stats from Transfermarkt show.
