Southampton showed an improvement on their poor start to the season against Arsenal last weekend as they returned from the Emirates with a point following their 2-2 draw.
However, the Saints need reinforcements in the January transfer window if the club is to move away from the relegation zone but it has been rumoured that the club’s board, led by majority shareholder Jisheng Gao, will only provide Ralph Ralph Hasenhüttl with a limited budget.
This would be a major blow as the club has been linked with some players already including, centre back Aaron Long and left-back Alessandro Tripaldelli.
Need a CB desperately so if we can only afford one let’s get an experienced CB

Certain fans can see the logic of the decision not to spend big in the January transfer window and some are understanding of the reported decision from the board. Others are suggesting player sales will be necessary before any new signings are made.
To be fair we won’t brag about spending big to avoid even more inflated asking prices but the likelihood is we actually don’t have a lot to spend

Let celtic have Forster and ellyounoussi for 15 mil and invest it

Basic common sense. Everyone knows we have to sell to buy and there’s no money available for transfers. #saintsfc #GaoOut

#saintsfc have to sell in order to buy. Fully believe they won’t spend a penny in January, largely because they haven’t actually got any pennies to spend.

If Gao doesn’t invest in the team in January then Southampton could be in big trouble. Many fans have mentioned the need for proven centre-backs and this seems vital as the Saints have the leagues worst defence, having conceded 31 goals already this season.
