Ex-Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has blasted Southampton for placing an “unrealistic” price tag on the head of shot-stopper Fraser Forster.

The 32-year-old is currently on loan at Celtic, the team he initially played for before his £10m move in 2014.

Forster signed a five-year extension to his contract in the summer of 2017 but found himself out of the picture during the 2018/19 season, which eventually resulted in him trying to find first-team football with the Scottish giants.

Now it looks like we are looking to get our money back for the goalkeeper. Having initially requested £25m for Forster but opted to dramatically reduce the price tag to £10m.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson still felt that this fee was still much too high and that it was unfair on Celtic.

Should Fraser Forster be moved on permanently?

No

“It is an unrealistic price tag put on him by Southampton”, he said. “He is a player that was frozen out, not even in the squad and was not wanted.

“Credit to the player who has gone up and rejuvenated his career. He has played extremely well and got the number one shirt.”

After stating he looked to have lost his desire at St Mary’s, he added that the Saints’ decision is a harsh one.

“It is unfair on Celtic to ask them to pay £10million for a player who was not in the Southampton squad eight months ago. It is Southampton’s prerogative but it could price him out of a move to Celtic.”

Credit to him, he has performed resolutely in Glasgow and has managed to keep 17 clean sheets in 39 appearances during the current campaign, before the football was suspended.

Forster only featured once last season as Alex McCarthy was the preferred shot-stopper, which may have frustrated him and understandably so.

Whatever Robinson may think about our moves in the transfer market, it is completely our right to place whatever price tag we like for any of our players. For someone that has played for England previously, £10m is about right for a player of Forster’s calibre.
