With yesterday’s headlines full of the news that Southampton had sacked vice chairman Les Reed, manager Mark Hughes may have thought his team news update would slip quietly through as he confirmed that centre-half Wesley Hoedt was a doubt for Watford.
#SaintsFC boss Mark Hughes says @wesleyhoedt is a doubt for the #WatfordFC game with a foot injury: https://t.co/BzyAdgfJla

The 24-year-old hasn’t had the best of seasons so far for us and in some cases, I think the Dutchman has been unfairly picked out for our defensive failings in 2018/19 as he’s far from alone in being well below par.
The flipside is he hasn’t really taken that many moments to impress, but again, not alone.
With eleven appearances to his name under Hughes so far this year, it seems a foot infection may now see him on the sidelines for a few weeks but at this stage he hasn’t been completely ruled out. Midfielder Mario Lemina is also carrying a slight knock, but he remains in contention for the match on Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium.
Today just gets better and better #saintsfc

Apparently the rumour is that after the City game he tried to give himself a kick up the backside, missed and has a muscle strain.

Southampton would have a better chance winning matches if Mark Hughes was a doubt for managing them
