Report: Southampton ‘expect’ to sell £25m-rated cup final hero for a profit in the summer

|

Southampton are reportedly confident in selling Fraser Forster next summer for up to £25m after a sensational season so far with Celtic.

Football Insider claim that the Saints are expected to sell the 31-year-old goalkeeper in the summer for a profit with the report stating that the south coast Premier League side expect there to be plenty of interest in Forster following his so-far incredible year with the Scottish giants.

Is Forster worth £25m?

Yes

No

Forster was the hero this weekend against hated rivals Rangers in the Scottish League Cup as the former England international denied Alfredo Morelos from the penalty spot as well as pull off a string of phenomenal saves to deny Steven Gerrard his first piece of silverware as a football manager.

Indeed, it isn’t the first time this season that Celtic have secured a massive win with the help of Forster’s heroics, with the 31-year-old shot-stopper making a sensational last-minute save against Lazio in the Europa League earlier in the season to see the Hoops secure three points that would see the reigning Scottish Premiership champions progress to the Round of 32 of the competition.

Although Forster has been in brilliant form this season, Southampton should be kidding themselves if they believe they can recoup a profit on the towering goalkeeper yet alone £25m+ for the Celtic loan star.

As figures from Transfermarkt show, goalkeepers remain a fairly undervalued position, with Jasper Cillessen this summer being the only shot-stopper to be transferred for a fee higher than £25m.

Forster has been a season-changing signing for Celtic, but Southampton have their head in the clouds if they believe they can sell the 31-year-old on for £25m+.
