Back in the middle of June, Southampton were being linked with having a potential interest in Inter Milan centre-half Zinho Vanheusden.

The claim came from outlet Het Belang van Limburg and it leant heavily on the 19-year-old having had a successful loan spell out with Belgian side Standard Liege in the 2018/19 campaign.

Southampton Linked With Highly Rated Inter Milan Defender

With talk of an £18million fee and interest from fellow Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, the price was always steep, especially as he’s yet to make his debut for the San Siro side as his breakthrough was arguably held back by a cruciate ligament injury.

The same outlet has now reported this week that we have cooled our interest in the player and via Sport Witness that we have ‘dropped out’ of the chase for his services.

According to the report we had already held talks over his capture, but presumably we aren’t willing to meet that fee given his relative experience in the senior game and we have now identified alternative options that provide better value for money.

Given how the rumour mill at this time of year works, expect us to be back in for him next week.
