Southampton’s men side might not have been around to seemingly add more misery to the moods of Saints supporters, but the women’s team managed to fill the void this weekend and then some.

Southampton’s women side played in front of a club-record attendance of 832 supporters in their second-round Hampshire Cup tie against fellow south coast side Bournemouth, with the Saints being the overwhelming winners during the contest as they claimed a big 7-1 win over the Cherries.

It was a momentous day for Southampton’s women side and for women’s football as a whole this weekend in England as on the same day in the English capital Tottenham hosted Arsenal in the WSL in front of a league-record 38,262 crowd as the Gunners managed a 2-0 win over their north London rivals.
