Southampton made the trip to Pride Park earlier this afternoon to face Frank Lampard’s Derby County side.

Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl did make changes as most fans would’ve expected following his pre-game words but he also included eight Academy graduates in the squad, with youngster Callum Slattery making his full senior debut in the game.

It was a bright start as Nathan Redmond opened the scoring four minutes into the first half. Three minutes after the halftime break he completed a brace to give us a 2-0 advantage, but around the hour mark in the match, Derby hit back strongly to score twice in three minutes to tie the scores up. With them missing a late, almost gilt-edged chance, with the final kick of the match, we’ll now welcome them back to St Mary’s Stadium for a third round reply later this month.

At least we’re still in the hat and that’s the main thing but again defensively we need improvement.
