Several Southampton fans have been having their say on who should partner the great Matt Le Tissier in the club’s all-time XI.
On Saints’ official Twitter account, they have put the question to the fans as to who should feature alongside the 212-goal ace in the middle of the park, after he was voted in from a previous poll.
The St Mary’s faithful overwhelmingly selected Ball, who has a close place in many of their hearts. He had two spells with us and scored 11 goals in 195 appearances over the course of seven years.
Who deserves the place?
Morgan Schneiderlin
Alan Ball
Ball’s leadership and ability to control games from the middle of the park was what he was best known for and picked up a World Cup winners’ medal with England in 1966, the youngest member of that historic team.
Predictably, supporters voted in their waves for Ball and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that we are “so lucky to have him”, while another titled him as a “football legend”.
If you don’t vote for Alan Ball then you need to brush up on your football history. We were so lucky to have had him play for the saints

I’ve gone for Bally. The other three were fantastic players but not quite good enough to top THIS poll. We’ve had some world class players at our club. If only we could field 33 players. 🤔😂

I love Morgan to bits but stg if Alan Ball doesn’t win this.
Pretty hard call. Armstrong, Case and Schneiderlin all terrific players but Bally has a world cup winners medal and is a football legend #saintsfc https://t.co/astZoNvmw2
