With Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina basically expressing his wish to get a fresh start at the weekend following the injury problems he’s had since his arrival at St Mary’s Stadium, the news has certainly not gone down well in the fanbase.
Five Clubs Linked For Talented Southampton Man As Departure Now Seems Inevitable
His abdominal injury last season certainly hampered his game time but when he was fit, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl called on him even if it was a slow reintroduction from the substitutes bench and despite the earlier speculation, it didn’t seem like the player or the club were forcing a transfer, more that we’d just be open to an impressive fee coming in – which is always the way at the club.
His own words show it’s him driving the departure and the club merely agree, and understandably so really as if his heart isn’t in it anymore for us it’s best for all parties we maximise the fee and make sure, given his obvious qualities, that we get a suitable replacement for him.
Reaction was obviously mixed to the recent developments but there was certainly some shock and resignation to things. If talks have been ongoing for a while though as Lemina’s interview suggests, then Hasenhuttl will have been scouting replacements.
Don't understand the need to keep him if his wishes are to leave? Makes sense for both parties; He gets his new challenge and we get funds in order to get the reinforcements the squad needs

The players heart has to be there. Otherwise performances will be lacking. If we keep buying midfield players then those on the bench or the fringe of the squad will get fed up. Players want to play.

Lemina is a good player, but he's not the best at any of RH's positions. If we can generate some much needed cash by selling him, then I'm all for it.

He’s extremely replaceable, has 3 good games a season

Replaceable..

You should be persuading Lemina to stay !

Mario Lemina is the most talented player we have. We should be building a team around him. Instead we will let him go and, (if we), replace him with someone average.
Unlike Boufal, you cannot class him as a 'luxury' player.— Antonio M. Vetere (@azzurro1961) July 8, 2019
Undoubtably on his day he’s one of our best players, however it’s very far and few between. We just can’t sell to a PL side ????????

Players come, players go. The sun will still rise tomorrow.

Let Lemina go, decent fee and sort a CB #saintsfc

He's just average, really don't where people think he's a world beater, he had one good game against city and the other few where he was good were against the teams in and around the relegation places. Cash in and get a CB with the money
